U12 Canada Bay Cannons Youth Girls v Western Magpies

Round 7, Wagener Oval

What a great Friday night at Wagener Oval!

The Cannons revelled in the wintery conditions over in Ashbury. With the the weather more suited to polar bears, the Cannons shot out of the blocks and put immediate pressure on the the Western Magpies. Ruby was dominating the clearances out of the centre while Molly was an unstoppable force in the forward line, finishing with three goals for the match. Niamh, Lila and Tahnee were awesome across the defensive line, pushing higher up the ground to lock the ball into the Cannons forward half.

The Cannons continued the pressure in the second quarter. India and Ruby combined several times on long runs down the ground, laced with precision hand-balling. Hannah was spectacular using her height and strength to trap the ball and score an amazing goal.
The third quarter belonged to Skye and Lila as they kept the ball moving forward and repelled the Magpies more frequent attacks. The highlight was Ruby’s long booming kick for a goal from what seemed like the centre of the ground!
The last quarter was a credit to all the girls on both teams. The biggest highlight of the night was hearing the Cannons girls talking unprompted about being respectful to their opposition… it was such a refreshing experience. Molly changed jumpers and helped the Magpies to strengthen up their forward line. After three near misses, there were loud as the Magpies scored a goal that was celebrated loudly by both teams.
The game finished in great spirit with the Cannons circling for the team song. Well done, girls!
