U15 Youth Girls: Round 10

Canada Bay Cannons U15 Youth Girls v Glebe Greyhounds

Round 10, Drummoyne Oval

Match report by Scott

The Canada Bay Cannons returned to the winners’ list on Sunday in impressive style against the ‘top of the table’ Glebe Greyhounds in the match of the season at Drummoyne Oval.

Led by Captain Emily, the Cannons were back to their brutal best right from the opening bounce. The girls run, team play and tackle pressure quickly asserted a lead over the Greyhounds – the benchmark team in the competition.

The girls maintained their intensity and pressure throughout the entire match and were able to expand the lead during every quarter. This was largely thanks to the defensive effort of the backline which held strong each time the Greyhounds mounted a challenge and a midfield that made smart decisions, skilful plays and looked after their team mates. The team spirit continues to grow within the group and it was obvious to all at the ground the girls are having a lot of fun playing their footy.

The win keeps the girls perfect home record intact and is fostering an excellent rivalry between the Cannons and Greyhounds that has developed over our three meetings so far this season. This rivalry continues to produce high quality football, played in an excellent spirit!
