Canada Bay Cannons U15 Youth Girls v East Sydney Bulldogs
Round 8, St Luke’s Oval
Match report by Scott
The Canada Bay Cannons U15 YG head into the mid season break two games clear in third spot on the ladder after a convincing win over East Sydney Bulldogs on Sunday at St Luke’s Oval.
The Cannons capitalised on a rich vein of form at home against the undermanned Bulldogs and under the leadership of Captain Serina, were largely dominant from the first bounce. The Cannons were brutal from the outset with a high tempo, fast running game and reaped the rewards of some significant goal kicking practice to assert a substantial lead. While it may not have reflected on the scoreboard, the Bulldogs were extremely competitive and were able to move the ball cleanly on a number of occasions with some superb overhead marking proving a huge advantage.
With a comfortable buffer at half time, Coach Michael was able to move players around the ground in the second half to test the girls in a variety of different positions to shape the team for the second half of the season. To their credit, the Bulldogs held the Cannons goalless after half time and were able to rally late in the match, making the best of the windy and rainy conditions to put the Cannons under some late pressure and test their structure. The Cannons backline held tight under pressure and at the final siren, there was plenty of big smiles around the ground after being able win three games in a row!
