U15Youth Girls: Round 11

U15 Div 2 Canada Bay Cannons v Penshurst Panthers

Round 11, Olds Park

The Canada Bay Cannons U15YG were defeated on Sunday morning by a rampaging Penshurst Panthers side in front of a Panthers home crowd at Olds Park. The match was another fantastic contest between the two teams and illustrates just how close the competition has become.

The Panthers were impressive throughout the match  in perfect conditions for footy. Their “run and carry” was executed with pace and precision displaying a marked improvement from the last encounter between the two teams. The Panthers continually challenged the Cannons defenders over and over all day.

The Cannons fought valiantly under Captain Summer who lead the team by example with a tough brand of footy. Although the Cannons were missing a number of their team mates, they sprung to life with some spirited team efforts, particularly in the third quarter, to get themselves back into the match…threatening to stage a come from behind. To their credit, the Panthers held strong and were able to hold the Cannons at bay and record a comfortable victory.

The home ground advantage has again proved crucial to the success of all the teams in the competition, which is neck and neck from first to sixth with a tight race home to the finals. The Cannons will regroup during the holiday break and come out firing back at Drummoyne Oval in Round 12 on 22 July.
